Answers

1. Which sensor is #1, at the top or the bottom?

StorMax cables have sensor #1 at the bottom of the cable, while the older style OPI-ONE monitor has cables where sensor #0 is at the top.

2. Do I need to know whether I have the old OPI-ONE or the newer StorMax system when ordering additional cables?

It is very important to know what system you have when ordering because the newer StorMax cables will not work with the older style OPI-ONE monitor. However the older style OPI-ONE cables can be read by the newer style StorMax monitor with a StorMax OPI-ONE Adapter.

3. How can I tell the difference between the older OPI-ONE and newer StorMax monitors?

The StorMax monitor, which fits into the palm of your hand, has a series of directional keys and a larger format screen that can display up to 4 cables with up to 8 sensors per cable. This digital monitor uses a 2-pin socket for plugging 2-Wire cables directly into the top of the monitor, as well as a series of adapters to plug 3-wire interconnect or other types of cables in through the 15-pin connector in the bottom of the monitor. The older style analog OPI-ONE monitor comes with a black clam-shell case and an extension cord coiled up inside with a 9-pin connector for plugging into the blue molded end of an OPI-ONE cable. With a white push-button for on/off and red for sensor advance, the OPI-ONE monitor displays only one temperature sensor at a time, which then has to be written down in the logbook usually found inside of the case.

4. Will the StorMax monitor read my old-style OPI-ONE cables?

Yes, with an OPI-ONE adapter, StorMax will read OPI-ONE cables.

5. Will the StorMax monitor read T/C cables?

Yes, with a T/C Adapter, StorMax will read T/C cables, but be sure to order the right sized Adapter, whether 6, 12 or 18 T/C.

6. Can I still get older-style OPI-ONE cables to add to an existing system?

Yes, you can purchase OPI-ONE cables, which come with older-style sensor elements inside the new style MDR2 tubes, and the same blue urethane jacketed lead cable and molded connector at the side of the bin. If you're looking to add more than a couple of cables, we recommend trading up to the StorMax monitor, for the new bins - then adding an OPI-ONE adapter to read existing cables with the new monitor.

7. What is the advantage of reading existing analog cables with the StorMax monitor?

The advantage is that readings can be stored automatically, then viewed in numeric or graphic fashion. Readings can also be uploaded to the OPIGIMAlite program on the PC. In all, you will be able to enjoy the advantages of the new technology by upgrading your existing cables.

8. What is the difference between StorMax SM/Standard Monitors and StorMax DM/Delux monitors?

The StorMax DM/Delux monitor has a backlit display screen and comes with the MONI-KITA adapter kit for re-charging and PC connection. The SM/Standard monitor does not include these features, but otherwise has all the same capabilities such as large format screen, data-logging, as well as the ability to upload data to the PC and recharge batteries if the MONI-KITA is purchased.

9. How do I use OPIGIMAlite software to upload readings from my StorMax monitor?

You must purchase the OPIGIMAlite software, which provides you a "key" that opens the program. Without this "key", the supplied OPIGIMAlite CD provides 3 free functions:

  • Uploading your monitor configuration to the PC for permanent record, and future download to a new monitor, should your monitor get lost or damaged.
  • Upgrade of the monitor software to the most recent version.
  • A demo describing basic OPGIMAlite software functionality.

10. How do I know if the readings on the monitor are old or new?

Use the right/left arrows to position the highlight box on top of the cable of interest, then look at the time and date displayed in the top right corner. If it is flashing the current time, the temperature is current. If not flashing, the last set of temperatures were taken at the indicated time.

11. Can I keep my current cables with the PC system?

Yes, StorMax is a "modular" system. By simply adding hardware to the existing cables, you can upgrade to StorMaxPro.
